ROSCL Downloads - Current Version: 0.0.1

ROSCL is distributed as releases and snapshots. Version numbers are read left to right with the left most digits having highest significance. The distributions are compressed tar archives. For your convenience both gzip (works with common windows "zip" utilities) and bzip2 (smallest filesize) files are provided. Also included are checksums in the *.sha files and GPG signatures in the *.asc files.

Download Current Release: Version 0.0.1
ROSCL is still pre-alpha and has no formal releases at this time.

Download Current Snapshot: Version 0.0.1 - 05/03/05
This is the first snapshot made for public release. See TODO.TXT for all that needs to be done before the first alpha release.

About GPG Signatures and the ROSCL Public Key:
Like SHA-1 a GPG signature facilitates verification of file integrity. In addition to assuring file integrity the GPG signature also provides certainty that the downloaded file was signed by a given public/private key pair. The detached GPG signature is stored in a separate file named filename.asc where 'filename' is the name of the file that the signature applies to. ROSCL public key fingerprints can be found in emails sent to the OSC developer's list.

Keep in mind that cryptographic signatures are only as secure as the web of trust around the keys used to create them. Since you probably don't know the author personally and haven't physically received a copy of the ROSCL public key you shouldn't trust the key below very much. If you don't understand how to use public key encryption please visit the GPG website at http://www.gnupg.org.

The ROSCL public key used to sign all files and ROSCL related email is:

About SHA-1 Checksums:
It is important to ensure that all files are downloaded in their original unmodified condition. If you do not have access to GPG, a SHA-1 checksum of all available files is provided in several locations for download integrity verification. To ensure the integrity of a downloaded file use the sha1sum program to generate a checksum of the file. Compare the output of sha1sum with the corresponding checksums found from at least two different locations. If there are any discrepancies then the file is not the original and should not be used. SHA-1 has been chosen by the author to replace MD5 in light of recently found weaknesses in the MD5 algorithm.

About Snapshots:
Work in progress snapshots are available. The snapshots consist of current tree source and are not guaranteed to work. Snapshots are not released on any schedule. Snapshot file names are formatted as follows:

roscl_x_x_x-MM_DD_YY.tar.bz2
roscl_x_x_x-MM_DD_YY.tar.bz2.sha
roscl_x_x_x-MM_DD_YY.tar.bz2.asc

where x_x_x corresponds to the three digit version number and MM_DD_YY corresponds to month, day and year respectively.

About Releases:
Releases tend to be stable and encompass significant progress. Releases are not made on any schedule. Release file names are formatted as follows:

roscl_x_x_x.tar.bz2
roscl_x_x_x.tar.bz2.sha
roscl_x_x_x.tar.bz2.asc

where x_x_x corresponds to the three digit version number.
